A few weeks ago Suzie and Jan Barhyte, the matriarch/patriarch duo that founded Barhyte Specialty Foods, celebrated a huge milestone: their 50th wedding anniversary. The celebration had style. MAJOR style. Taking place at the couple's "home away from home" -Palm Springs, California- the anniversary bash included the entire Barhyte family and many other friends, both from their hometown of Pendleton and Palm Springs. Ready for the dish? Here's some fun info:
The Venue: The Bougainvillea Estate
Featuring a dramatic, long driveway and a picturesque pond with fountains at the entrance, this stately place couldn't have been more fun for the "1960's pool party" themed event. A cocktail hour welcomed guests on the front patio and then people shifted into the courtyard for dinner which featured a large pool smack dab in the middle and lights hanging above. The place was massive and couldn't have been more perfect to house the entire Barhyte family before and after the party...the grandchildren had a blast running around the grounds, playing tennis and splashing in the pool! You can find better pictures on their website.
The Food: Crayons Catering and Event Services
Of course, any party hosted by the Barhyte's is going to have delicious eats! Guests sipped beverages and dined on appetizers like chicken satay during the cocktail hour, but the real focus was all setup in the courtyard: different varieties of paninis, fruits, vegetables and the coolest thing ever: a mashed potato bar! Mashed potatoes were served in a martini glass (Suzie's favorite drink!), and then guests could pick out their own toppings, like green onions, chili, cheese and bacon. It was a hit. For dessert, a banana split and hot fudge sundae bar brought smiles to everyone's faces!
During the cocktail hour, Dean Martin sound-alike Paul Elia graced guests with his silky smooth voice singing throwback favorites like Frank Sinatra's New York, New York. After dinner, the sassy Sharon Sills sang fun dance songs that got the crowd off their feet and also sweet, romantic ones like At Last for the celebrating couple. There was never a lack of beautiful, live music!
At one point during the evening, some friends and the Barhyte grandkids did a fun skit (see video below!) and Suzie and Jan's daughter-in-law, Cristina, put together a touching slideshow of their life and friends/family that definitely brought moist eyes to the crowd.
Cole Barhyte, one of the grandkids, put together this awesome recap video of the party, so you can take a look for yourself at the beauty and fun of the evening. It truly was an amazing celebration that Suzie and Jan are so thankful to have had, especially after their humble courthouse marriage ceremony 50 years ago. What's better than friends, family, great food and fun in a beautiful place? We're not so sure!
